Gaugen Marsjklubb is a politically independent club. Its purpose is to arrange walks or other kind of volkssport, without registration of time or other competitive elements. The goal is to forward the idea of non-competitive volkssports in Sandnes and its surrounding area in order to improve the public health.

Gaugen Marsjklubb was established on 3. August 1982 and shortly after became a member of Norges Turmarsjforbund - NTF as member no. 206. The club's rather special name comes from the coat of arms of Sandnes, Norway. The club's first chairman was Thor Høiland from Sandnes. Other central persons in the club during the first years were Ernst Selvikvåg, Anna Måge and Jan Bysheim. In the 1980s the club decided to follow the trends in changing the titles chairman and vice chairman to leader and vice leader.

The club's very first event was the "NTFs TV-aksjonsmarsj" that was arranged later the same autumn. Then, on the 2nd day of Christmas the same year, the "NTFs Julemarsj" was arranged for the first time by the Gaugen MK. On the first Saturday in May 1983 the club was finally ready to arrange its first ordinary event - the "Gaugenmarsjen". This event included the first 100km walk in Norway that year, and it was also the first and only such event in Rogaland. In 1998 the 100km walk was arranged for the last time. The reason for this reduction of the "Gaugenmarsjen" was reduced participation in the event, especially for the 100km walk. Today it's possible to walk 60km in Gaugenmarsjen. Another special event worth of mentioning is the Gaugen MKs 10th anniversary walk which started on October 10th 1992 at 10 o'clock in the morning.

Throughout the years, the Gaugen MK has used three different schools as the starting area for their weekend of events. The first years Øygard Ungdomsskole in Sandnes was used. In 1990 the events were moved to Sviland Skole outside Sandnes. And from 1994 Austrått Barneskole in Sandnes has been used as starting area for the events. The weather in this region isn't always very nice in early May. Therefore, in 1992 the events where moved one month ahead to the first weekend of June.

In 1989 the weekend became extended with Fredags-gaugen in the Friday-evening, and in the period 1995-2000 Sandnesmarsjen was arranged on the Sunday. This walk is from 2001 closed due to low participation in Gaugen MKs arrangements.
